Michael Stromyer, PhD, Sr. Scientist

Mike Stromyer, Ph.D. is a Sr. Scientist working in the research and development department at Sudoc.  He is currently leading the development of new TAMLTM catalysts as well as the optimization of catalyst oxidation chemistry to meet the ever-growing needs of Sudoc’s customers and stake holders.

In 2014, Mike received his B.S. in chemistry from Clarion University of Pennsylvania. While there, he spent 2 years on the development of a series of metal organic framework complexes, with the goal of trapping and storing atmospheric greenhouse gasses.

After receiving his B.S., Mike continued his passion for research at the University of Akron, where he received his M.S. in chemistry in 2016 and his Ph.D. in synthetic chemistry in 2019. While pursuing his Ph.D. he was awarded the Dr. Henry and Jean Stevens Research Fellowship, which is based on scholastic achievement, superior character, and leadership. His focus throughout his academic career has consistently revolved around helping others. This is exemplified by his graduate research involving the development of novel anti-cancer drugs with applications to improve the prognosis of bladder cancer patients.

Following the completion of his Ph.D. program, Mike continued his research in synthetic medicinal chemistry at the University of Akron as a post-doctoral researcher until January of 2021. As a post-doctoral researcher, he increased production scale and optimized syntheses of anti-cancer and antimicrobial compounds for their anticipated translation to investigational new drug status with the FDA.

Although Mike’s chemistry career has covered diverse topics, a passion for helping others and investigating solutions to reduce the environmental pollutants that drastically effect human health is what attracted him to Sudoc.
