Arani Chanda, PhD, Senior Scientific Advisor
Committed to do well by doing good.
Arani Chanda is a Senior Scientific Advisor at Sudoc helping the team to bring the family of TAML™ catalyst to market in a variety of applications. Arani spent six years developing TAML™ catalysts with Dr. Terry Collins at Carnegie Mellon and has over ten years of professional experience in the pharmaceutical industry. At Sudoc, Arani will play a critical role in advancing the company’s mission to improve human and environmental health and well-being.
Pushing the boundaries in chemistry to improve life of many has been the central theme of Arani’s scientific endeavor for the last 20 years. Arani has spent time developing TAML™ catalysts with Dr. Terry Collins and in particular how oxidation technologies can clean water and finding pathways to use water as a reaction media. He is currently involved in developing novel drugs for rare diseases at Serapta Therapeutics.
Arani grew up in Kolkata, India and completed his education in chemistry from Presidency College, Kolkata (B.Sc., Hons) and Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kanpur (M.Sc.) before joining Prof. Terry Collins’s lab at Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh for his doctoral work. His studies involved mechanistic understanding and application of TAML™ catalysts resulting in multiple highly cited papers including Science that was instrumental in development of new applications and next generation TAMLs™. For his work he was awarded Kenneth G. Hancock Memorial Student Award in Green Chemistry and one of the first Science Communication Fellows chosen by Environmental Health Sciences (EHS).
As a Pfizer post-doctoral fellow, Arani worked with Nobel laureate Prof. Barry Sharpless and Prof. Valerie Fokin at the Scripps Research Institute to develop novel water based synthetic pathways. Through progressive roles at Eisai Inc and Sarepta Therapeutics, he now leads teams on strategic projects towards development and commercialization of novel drugs for rare diseases.
Arani is passionate about wood pyrography and likes cooking, listening to music and walking through the trails with his family to spend the time outside work.
